Sheltered ESOL Teacher at Duval County Public Schools. The student's language proficiency and determined placement into the appropriate ESOL program.
I started tutoring and teaching ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) to international students more than 30 years ago (1980's) while attending university. I have had the added benefit of both teaching and tutoring all ages in China; four years in summer camps and two years in the 'Saturday Schools'. I have experience in teaching ESOL while living in many places in the USA, such as Virginia, California, New York, and FL.
I taught middle school and high school students in the subjects history, economics, and language arts at a small private school in upstate New York, while being an active parent in my son's fourth grade activities.
I taught my two younger sons at home (home-school) from their earliest school years up through their high-school years. For two years we participated in an educational co-op, where I taught middle school and high school history, economics, and language arts. I assisted the teacher for 4-6 grades at the co-op during my 'free' period.
I assisted a (Chinese) friend's daughter in adjusting to education in the USA, and tutored her in her first grade lessons.
I love tutoring, as that allows me to tailor my lessons exactly to the student needs and interest. My current schedule frees me up to tutor during the day or after school hours, around student schedules.
